Ministry & Programs

The ministry and programs of our church are many, varied, and constantly evolving. They range from distributing food baskets to needy local families at holiday time to supporting the “Heifer Project,” which purchases domestic animals globally, offering support to needy native farmers. What they have in common is fellowship among the participants and a sense of joy in responding to God’s call “to serve the least of these.”

Some of the projects our church undertook during the past year or so were:

♦ The Board of Mission & Service sponsored the same ten families for both Thanksgiving and Christmas, providing them with complete turkey dinners and Christmas gifts for their aggregate of 19 children.

♦ Distributed ready-to-eat foods, including baby foods, and diapers to walk-ins and referrals from local agencies.

♦ Church members contributed to on-going UCC–related mission funds, such as One Great Hour of Sharing and Neighbors in Need.

♦ A monthly mission sewing group meets as needs dictate. Many home-made gowns and blankets were made and donated to local Hospice patients.

♦ During two weeks of each year, our church delivers Meals on Wheels to local shut-ins.

In addition to direct contributions of time, talent, and treasure, we view the use of our church building by non-profit organizations as a ministry to our community. Our downtown location makes our church an ideal place for a number of non-profit organizations to meet:

♦ Tehachapi Hospital Foundation & the Hospital Guild

(raising funds for building a new local hospital)

♦ TOPS (Take Off Pounds Safely)

♦ American Association of University Women

♦ Tehachapi Mountain Pipes & Drums

    ♦ Native American Talking Circles

♦ and others on an irregular basis.

Upcoming projects this year include:

♦ Apple pie sales, a 32-years long tradition for which our      church is widely-known, using locally-grown apples.

♦Food basket distribution to needy local families (in con-

junction with a coordinated community effort).
