 Upcoming/Ongoing Events

FELLOWSHIP GROUPS HAVE BEEN FORMED, but there is always room for newcomers! Call Lauire Betts, 821-1904 if you want to join a self-directed friendship group.

BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS – In recognition of the inter-relatedness of all of God’s creation and our human role as dominions and stewards, a blessing of the animals will take place on Sunday, October 30th, after and within each service of worship. Here is how it will (hopefully!) work:

If you have a small, friendly, well-behaved animal that can peacefully co-exist with others in the sanctuary, you may bring it to worship on a leash or in a cage; or it may remain outside with a human companion during worship. Animals who are friendly, well-behaved animals and their human companions are invited to attend. Animals who become nervous or aggressive or whose participation is questionable may be represented by a photo or statue or other representation; animals must be under control and suitably restrained.  All animals must have current, appropriate vaccinations and identification. A human companion must accompany each animal at all times.

THANKSGIVING POTLUCK — If you’re interested, you may share dinner in Friendship Hall on Thanksgiving Day (Nov.24). Julie Thigpen, a professional chef, has graciously agreed to  cook turkey if others provide the trimmings (side dishes). Sign the clipboard that circulates during worship or telephone Julie at 821-1105. This opportunity will be a GO! only if enough people sign-up by the deadline of Sunday, November 6th.

THANKSGIVING FOOD BASKETS will be distributed from our church through the Salvation Army. Details will be forthcoming, or you may contact Laurie Betts at 821-1904.

SAVE THE DATE Friday, December 9th — A fund-raising concert will be held at 7:00 p.m. at St. Malachy’s to benefit both our church & St. Malachy’s. The featured artis will be world-renowned Hawaiian musician Chris Cerna.

SWEET RECYCLING - In an effort to "sweeten" the rewards of recycling, some of our church members meet on the LAST WEDNESDAY OF EACH MONTH at the recycling station in Albertson's parking lot.  After "feeding" our recyclables into the machine, we then adjourn to Baskin-Robbins ice cream store for self-purchased treats. All recycling money will go toward our church's youth projects but people of all ages are encouraged to attend. Please note that Uncrushed cans are best because they are recycled at a higher rate (5 cents per can) than crushed cans. No bottles from alcoholic beverages are accepted. Of course, you may continue to bring your recyclables to Friendship Hall if you prefer. Our first Sweet Recycling Event was held on Wednesday, May 25th; our next will be on November 23rd at 3:30 p.m. See Julie St. John (821-1070) or Rev. Diane if you have any questions.

FREE REIKI TREATMENTS: Reiki is a precise method for connecting universal energy with the body’s power of healing. Reiki is not a cure, but is a healing modality. It is recognized by the California Board of Registered Nurses for their Continuing Education. Dick & Esther Burdine were trained and certified in September 2000 as Reiki practitioners. They and others in our church who are certified will be offering free Reiki treatments in the CE Room on the third Monday of each month, starting on September 19th, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. There will be articles regarding Reiki posted in Friendship Hall. If you have questions, please phone Esther Burdine at 821-2140.
